David S. Coleman

(December 5, 1923 – June 11, 2017)

David S. Coleman, 93, died Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Magnolia Assisted Living. He was born December 5, 1923 to Lloyd and Bessie Sewell Coleman.

David was a World War II Navy Veteran, Mason, Union County Farm Bureau Board Member, former owner of Cotton Plant Gin and Elevator and longtime farmer for sixty-three years, living his entire life in the Wallerville Community of Union County. He loved running beagles, rabbit hunting and fishing.

David was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in New Albany.

Funeral services will be 2:00p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Rev. Whit Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Wallerville Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Lynda Stewart Coleman; five children: Marla Nunnelee of New Albany, Kathy Wilburn (Eddie) of Dorsey, Alan Coleman (Debra) of Amory, Glen Coleman (Sharon) of Branyan and Susan Gafford (Tim) of New Albany; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lloyd Coleman, Jr.; a son, Paul Coleman; a son-in-law, Paul Nunnelee; a grandson, Scott Coleman and a great granddaughter, Callie Scott.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Scott, Jeremy Coleman, Doug Coleman, Matt Coleman, Kirk Nunnelee, Grant Coleman and John Nunnelee. Honorary pallbearers will be Curt Clayton, Paul Hall, Charlie Neal Huffstatler, Norman Hill, Boyce Grisham and Terry Bryant.

Visitation will be at Hillcrest Baptist Church on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 5:00p.m. till 8:00p.m. and on Tuesday from noon until service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

In honor of Mr. Coleman’s service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U. S. Navy flag during his visitation and funeral service.
