Elijah Barkley
New Albany – Elijah Wilder Barkley, 86, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Union County Health and Rehab in New Albany. He was born April 29, 1932 in New Albany to Elijah Wiseman Barkley and Edna Wilder Barkley. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during the Korean War. He was retired as Maintenance Supervisor for C.A.D.E.T. School in Holly Springs after working for over 35 years.

He was a member of New Albany Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon, an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent and Elder Emeritus. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, spending time with family and friends, especially his grandson, Jared. He was a quiet, calm person, always ready to help others and until failing health, he enjoyed assisting with the upkeep and maintenance at the Church.

Funeral services will be at 11:00a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at United Funeral Service with Rev. Bill Everett, Rev. Kyle Brent and Stephen Ewing officiating. Burial will be at Vista Memorial Park. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine Gullett Barkley; a son, Barry Barkley (Deborah); a sister, Louise Barkley McKeown; one grandson, Jared Barkley (Meghan); a nephew, Jeff McKeown; and one great grandson that he was looking forward to meeting, Elijah Cook Barkley, who was born one day after Mr. Barkley’s death and his step grandchildren, Cole Williams (Margaret), Ivy Williams and Maxx Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Glen Barkley; a daughter-in-law, Lynda Saunders Barkley; and his wife’s parents, Leroy and Viola Hodges Gullett.

The family wishes to thank the medical staff of Baptist Memorial Hospital – Union County and the entire staff of Union County Health and Rehab for their excellent care and concern for him and his family.

Visitation will be Friday, December 7, 2018 from 5:00p.m. till 7:00p.m. at the funeral home.

The family request memorials be made to New Albany Presbyterian Church, the Gideons or to charity of donor’s choice.!/Obituary
