UPDATED: Intense storm cuts New Albany power for second holiday weekend in a row

UPDATED: 6:57 PM:

NALGW manager Bill Mattox said electrical power to most customers was restored by shortly after 6 p.m.
“All of our major circuits have been restored,” he said. “There are still customers without power, but we expect to have everybody back up before much later in the evening.”

A late afternoon wind storm knocked out electrical service for a large part of New Albany, Monday, July 3rd.

At 5:20 PM, New Albany Lights, Gas and Water (NALGW) manager, Bill Mattox, told that several power line crews were at work repairing damage. Several trees and limbs were blown down by the by the intense thunderstorm, dragging power lines down with them.

Mattox said he does not believe this holiday weekend’s storm has caused as much damage as the one over the Memorial Day weekend.

The areas with power disruptions include Walmart and the retail shopping area surrounding it, which lost power around 4:00 PM.

Mattox said he believes power to most NALGW customers will be restored well before midnight.
