NEW ALBANY, MS – Bruce Allan Bullwinkel, 69, died Tuesday, January 16, 2018. He was born October 14, 1948, in Morristown, New Jersey to Walter and Mildred Bullwinkel. Bruce and his family remained in New Jersey until 1955, when they relocated to the south. First, a year in Georgia followed by brief stints in Fort Worth and Okolona. In 1960, the family settled in Somerville, Tennessee, which Bruce would call his home for the remainder of his childhood.

Bruce attended the University of Tennessee, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree. He remained a Vol forevermore. He attended UT Medical School in Memphis, obtaining his M.D. in 1974. After completing his residency, he moved his family to New Albany, MS in 1979 to join Dr. E.E. Bramlitt’s medical practice, New Albany Surgical Group. Dr. Bullwinkel remained in practice as a general surgeon in New Albany until he retired in 2010.

Bruce was an avid student of military history. He loved to visit nearby battlefields, including Brice’s Cross Roads and Shiloh. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and working on his farm. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the local community. He served on the School Board for the New Albany Public School District and was a member of the local Rotary Club. He attended First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, Allan of Houston, TX, LeeAnne of New Albany, and Michael of Houston, TX; his grandchildren, Montana, Jackson, Blanton, Peyton, and Kate; his siblings, Gary of Memphis and Kathy of Poquoson, VA; and his children’s mother, Lois of Counce, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mildred; his sister, Carol; and his son, Stephen.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 18 at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in New Albany. Following visitation, a memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM at the church with Reverend Tim Prather officiating.
