At the first November meeting of the Union County Board of Supervisors, the first item on the agenda was an executive session.
The stated purpose of the closed meeting was the discussion of possible litigation The board met with Joe Davis, a New Albany attorney, for about 10 minutes before coming back into open session.
Steel-Con, a construction company with offices north of New Albany on Highway 15, was the low bidder for maintenance and repair work to be done on a bridge on County Road 46. The bridge is District Two in the western part of the county.
The Steel-Con bid was $35,750. The only other bid received was for $48,500 from McBride Construction Company. There was apparently a difference in the way the two bidders proposed to accomplish the repair work on the bridge. The board took both bids under advisement.
The board approved the purchase of a new fire truck for the West Union Volunteer Fire Department. Bids for the purchase of the new fire-fighting equipment were received at a prior board meeting and then taken under advisement. The purchase price is $279,400.
The board approved an “interfund loan” from the county’s General Fund to the Martintown East Fund. Martintown East is an industrial site the county is developing. The amount of the loan is $61,841.48.
The county board also conducted regular and recurring business including approving minutes of its October meetings, approving the October claims docket, approval of the Road Department Work Schedule for November and approving payment of routine fees.
