New Albany, MS- A former clerk for the City of New Albany municipal court was indicted for embezzlement and arrested Monday, Oct. 24th.

Jennifer Galloway, of Myrtle, MS, was indicted for one count of embezzlement, based on information gathered by the Mississippi State Auditor’s Office and presented to a Union County Circuit Court Grand Jury.

Galloway worked for the city court from early in the 2000 decade until October of 2013.  State auditor’s investigators said Galloway had “failed to deposit” $206,648.80 in cash bonds, fine money and court fees during the time she worked as a clerk.

New Albany city officials first asked the office of State Auditor Stacy Pickering to investigate Galloway’s actions about three years ago.

The auditor’s office made a “demand” that Galloway pay restitution of $334,680.64, which includes interest on the stolen funds, as well as the cost of the investigation.

Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards told NAnewsweb.com that Galloway has been released from the county jail on bond. It is not known whether Galloway has retained an attorney to represent her.

NAnewsweb.com will report more details of this story as they become available.
