High school seniors reprise bridge walk of 2006

New Albany, MS- Senior students from all five Union County high schools reprised a walk today, October 26, 2016, that they first took more than 10 years ago, as first graders.

On March 29, 2006, the Bankhead Street/Highway 178 bridge across the Little Tallahatchie River had only recently been completed. That Wednesday morning,  first graders from the then-new New Albany Elementary School joined first graders from all four campuses of the Union County School District — East Union, Ingomar, Myrtle and West Union — for a symbolic first walk across the new bridge. They walked west to east toward the historic downtown New Albany business district.

Now those same first grade students are high school seniors, scheduled to graduate next spring.
