Hugh Sidney Morman Sr.

November 8, 1927 – May 9, 2019



 

Hugh Sidney Morman, Sr., 91, passed away May 9, 2019 at magnolia place in New Albany, MS after a brief illness. He was born on November 8, 1927 in New Albany, MS to Houston Gibson (Gip) Morman and Martha Lela Patterson Morman. His family moved to Memphis, TN where he graduated from Southside High School. After high school Sidney served two years in the U. S. Navy. Following his discharge, he returned to Memphis where he met the love of his life Norma Ledbetter. They married on August 22, 1949 and were blessed with 69 years together. They moved to Myrtle, MS in 1957 and became faithful, active members of Myrtle Baptist Church. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, church choir director and was actively involved in the ministry of Camp Zion for well over thirty years until his recent illness.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday May 12, 2019 at Myrtle Baptist Church. Rev. Earl J. Farley and Rev. Linney Finney will officiate. Burial will be in Gerizim Cemetery at Myrtle. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Survivors include his wife Norma Ledbetter Morman of Myrtle; sons Hugh S. Morman Jr. of Myrtle and David H. Morman (Linda) of Blue Springs; grandchildren Clay Morman (Ashley) of Myrtle, Christopher Morman of Myrtle and Amanda Alexander (Jacob) of New Albany, MS; great-grandkids Blake and Mason Morman of Myrtle and Grayson and Sawyer Alexander of New Albany; special sister-in-law Janice Ledbetter of Myrtle; two sisters, Joan Tayler of Munsford, TN, Carolyn Dodson of Brunswick, TN, and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bob Morman of Heber Springs, Arkansas.

Sidney was retired from Mohasco Furniture Manufacturing Co. He also owned and operated 4-M Printing Co. in Myrtle until about 2016. He was, in every respect, an outstanding person. His name was always mentioned with honor, respect and appreciation everywhere he went. He loved his Lord, his Church and his family. He was also actively involved in his community. He was the last surviving charter member of the Myrtle Volunteer Fire Department. Sidney was an active, hardworking member of Gideon’s International Ministry since 1977.

Pallbearers will be Allen Gregory, Bruce Zulauf, Carl Hudson, Jay Turcotte, Jim Hogan, Fred Hogan and David Hogan.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Gideon organization.

Visitation will be 4-8 pm on Saturday May 11, 2019 at the United Funeral Service in New Albany, MS.

The family requests that memorials in Sidney’s name be made to the Gideon’s International Union County Camp P.O. Box 805 New Albany, MS 38652.

In honor of his service in the United States Navy, we will fly the U. S. Navy Flag during the visitation and service.
