New Albany, MS- First grade students in Jamie Glenn’s class at New Albany Elementary have been learning about the needs and wants of a city. This is a part of a social studies unit that involves the students working in collaborative groups to build their own city.
Students can only choose ten businesses to add to their map. In order to choose wisely, several guest speakers from the community were brought in to share the importance of their jobs.
Visitors included Bill Mattox, Manager of New Albany Light, Gas and Water, as well as New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson. Dan Richey, Assistant Fire Chief with the Northeast Union Fire Department, also recently spoke to the first graders, discussing his job as a fireman and the importance of fire safety.
