NAES 4th graders receive new books through endowment

,

New Albany, MS- Fourth grade students in Teresa Ohler’s English-Language Arts classes at New Albany Elementary School are learning about history through literature, while improving their reading skills. Ohler received funding through the Dean Provence Endowment for Excellence in Education grant program and was able to purchase student copies of the Who Was and What Was book series.  Ohler uses these books in conjunction with the Pearson Reading Street series to make historical events come alive for students.   Through the grant, Ohler was able to purchase student copies of seven titles including:  What Was the Declaration of Independence?, Who Was Jesse Owens?, Who Was Jackie Robinson?, What was the Lewis and Clark Expedition?, Who Was George Washington Carver?, What Was the Underground Railroad?, and Who Was Neil Armstrong?.
