NAHS Operation Warm Heart brings good news to district families

,

The annual “Operation Warm Heart” Christmas adoption program started by New Albany High School ten years ago was once again a great success.

Each year, the electives department of NAHS heads up this operation by first “adopting” children within the New Albany School District through the Helping Hands agency. This year, 24 students from 10 families were adopted. At NAHS, students and teachers were assigned a child through their second period classes and given information about their child, which would help them buy gifts that they need and/or request. High school students at NAHS look forward to this annual event and give generously to those in need each year.

Each child adopted received clothing, shoes, winter apparel, toys and hygiene products. In addition to these items, each family received a box of canned foods and a frozen turkey compliments of the New Albany Middle School National Junior Honor Society’s annual food drive.  The shopping of gifts was coordinated by NAHS Counselor Kyra Cossey; wrapping and boxing of items was coordinated by Chorus Substitute Teacher Helen Smith; and delivery of gifts was coordinated by Head Baseball Coach John Walker.
