NASTUC Students Celebrate National Pi Day -

On Friday, March 20, 2015, students at NASTUC (New Albany South Tippah Union County Behavioral Management Center) belatedly celebrated National Pi Day. Pi Day is recognized among mathematics students, young and old, around the world on March 14. The Greek letter Pi () is used to represent the constant irrational number that is the result of the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, roughly 3.14. Thus, on March 14 (3/14) each year, the number is celebrated. This year the date was even more special as 3/14/15 represents the first five digits of Pi.

Due to inclement weather, students were forced to scratch their plans for a 3.1 mile walk. Instead, they stayed inside and viewed a Power Point presentation by Ripley student Jada Prather and the movie, “Life of Pi”. After lunch, they were treated to pie (key lime and lemon meringue) by their teachers and administrator, Ms. Minerva Graham.

On Wednesday, March 25, after the sun came out, students formed a human version of the symbol for Pi on the grounds of the school. Mrs. Lee Ann Thompson’s journalism class from New Albany High School took an aerial photograph with the class drone to capture the moment.
