Organizers announce Riverfest venue changes for some events

The New Albany Main Street Association announced location changes Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 26, of several of this year’s Tallahatchie Riverfest activities. Main Street had previously announced that several events would be held on the lawn of the Union County Courthouse.

However, those events could not be scheduled on the courthouse lawn. The activities will take place instead on Bankhead, Camp and Court streets that surround the courthouse.

Starting several weeks ago, the county spent several thousand taxpayer dollars repairing damage to the courthouse lawns. The sprinkler system was overhauled. About two thousand dollars were spent buying new sod for much of the front lawn. Additional funds went for preparation and installation. The new sod is a long way from well established and will not withstand heavy foot traffic. Recent wet weather would have made the new grass even more vulnerable to damage.

Riverfest coordinators have reconfigured the booth set up in the streets around the courthouse on Camp and Court Avenues and by the Magnolia Civic Center on Bankhead Street. Many vendors and food trucks will be prepping in the early morning and the market will officially open at 10 am and go until 4 pm..

Perkins Dental sponsored HOOPFEST will be going on behind the Main Street Association office.

The Baptist sponsored Day Stage will be in front of the Main Street Association across from the courthouse. It will feature live music, a pet parade finale, Tallahatchie Riverfest Pageant winners, and a Case Knife presentation at 2 pm.

The Case Knife Show itself will be at the Magnolia Civic Center. The show itself begins at 9 am and the Case Company is offering 50 of 2 different collectors knives to be sold at a first come first served basis

Friday Night Blues sponsored by Pam Brown’s Insurance Agency and Saturday evening music with headliner Sundance Head, sponsored by Toyota, and the Main Street Hospitality Tent, sponsored by Clark Beverage and New Albany Wine and Spirits is still on for the Riverview Stage at the Park Along the River from 5-10 pm.
