March 3, 1927 – May 15, 2019
Sarah Addie Foley Grubbs was born March 3, 1927, daughter of Bill and Estes Snipes Foley. She was born, raised, and lived her entire life in Mound City Community, Union County. She married the love of her life, Eric Grubbs, on June 3, 1944, and they celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2004 prior to his passing on April 18, 2005.
Mrs. Grubbs was a retired hairdresser and accomplished seamstress who “dressed” many ladies and their daughters throughout New Albany and Union County. She was an excellent cook, and homemade chicken/dumplings as well as “grandmother’s vegetable soup” were favorites of friends and family. Sarah taught her children by example of loving others and taking food to the needy or sick in the community.
She was a faithful member of Ellistown Baptist Church, driving herself to Sunday morning service until failing health of the past year. She loved everyone, especially members of her Sunday School Class.
Survivors include three children: Jimmy Grubbs (Carolyn) of Ellistown; Rose Vinson (Tommy) of Collierville, TN; Barbara Hitt (Alan) of Branyan Community. One brother, Bill Foley (Latane) of Mound City. Nine grandchildren: Tommy Grubbs (Velina), Stephanie Grubbs, Rusty Grubbs, Suzanne Grubbs Meyer (Matt), Barry Vinson (Lynn), John Vinson, Vicki Vinson Fox (Wint), Mark Hitt (Carrie), and Lori Hitt Sheffield (Kirk). Also, she proudly had 26 great-grands and 8 great-great grands. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Grubbs was preceded in death by granddaughter, Carol Ann Grubbs, and great-granddaughter, Holly Vinson.
