At least one individual was shot in an incident at a body shop near the school in northern Pontotoc County sometime after 9 am, Thursday morning, March 1st.
No identity or other information about the victim is available at this time.
The shooting occurred a short distance from the North Pontotoc School campus. There was no incident and no known threat at the school campus near Ecru. However, a source at the Pontotoc County Schools superintendent’s office told NAnewsweb.com that the campus had been “locked down” as a “precaution.”
The campus on the east side of Highway 15 was still locked down at noon today.
School officials have told NAnewsweb.com that rumors of a lockdown at Ingomar School are untrue.
However, NAnewsweb.com was also told by Union County Superintendent of Education Ken Basil that school officials are considering a policy that would allow some teachers to be armed with hand guns. Basil said that, if adopted, the policy would authorize only carefully selected and trained teachers to carry firearms into classrooms.
