New Albany-Terry McGaughey Young, 76, died Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Magnolia Place in New Albany. He was born July 5, 1941 in Blytheville, AR to Starlyn Henry Young and Virginia McGaughey Young. He was a retired developer and farmer, having been the first farmer to raise rice in Northeast Mississippi. He served on the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board under former Governor Ray Mabus. He was a Christian and worshipped with the New Albany Church of Christ, where he had served as Deacon, an Elder, a Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and was a member of the International Edsel Club. He also had a lifelong love of Allis-Chalmers tractors and enjoyed restoring them and participating in antique tractor pulls. He was privileged to travel to many places, with the highlight of his travels being his trip to South Africa in 2004.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the New Albany Church of Christ with Minister Mike King officiating. Burial will be in Glenfield Memorial Park. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Vest Young; a daughter, Lana Todd (Steve); two sons, Phil Young (Paige) and Matt Young, all of New Albany; six grandchildren, Phillip Young, Audrey Anna Young, Natalie Young, Eli Young, Laura Beth Mathis and Kristin Foster (Brock); three great-grandchildren, Carter, Ella and Carson; three sisters, Carol Anson of New Albany, Melinda Dunlap of Lilburn, GA and Cathie Bouland (Jeff) of Marion, AR; and four brothers, Richard Young (Elaine) of Jackson, GA, John Young of New Albany, David Young (Dianne) of Pickwick, TN and Steve Young of Birmingham, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Amy Vest; and three brothers-in-law, Jimmy Vest, Jack Dunlap and John Anson.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Young, Eli Young, Terry Robert Young, Michael Starlyn Young, John Walker Young, C.O. Wilson, Mark Jennings and Randy Wall.
Visitation will be Monday, June 25, 2018 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the New Albany Church of Christ and again the day of the service from 10 a.m. until time for the service.
