New Albany—William Thomas “Tommy” Shannon, 75, died Thursday, April 19, 2018 at his home. He was born January 31, 1943 in Memphis, Tennessee to R. J. Shannon, Sr. and Elsie Pugh Shannon. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in New Albany where he served on the Building, Finance, and Boy Scout Troop 17 Committees and was a member of the Buzzy Clayton Sunday School Class. He was a retired wholesale grocer and former Owner and President of Union Grocery Company. He served on the BNA Bank Board of Directors and was a member of the New Albany Rotary Club.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Tim Prather officiating. Burial will be at the Vista Memorial Park. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dot Shannon; one daughter, Lauren Shannon Nelson (Benji) of Madison; one son, James Shannon (Melanie) of Pontotoc; four grandchildren, Benjamin Nelson IV, Tucker Shannon, Mary Grace Nelson, and Lilly Shannon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bobby Shannon; and a grandson Thomas Shannon.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Sam Creekmore, Sam Creekmore III, Tom Cooper, Johnny Webb, Eddie Bramlitt, Billy Wiseman, Tally Riddell, and Gary Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be the Wednesday Night Supper Club and the BNA Bank Board of Directors.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Visitation will be Friday, April 20 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. in First United Methodist Church’s Wesley Hall.!/Obituary
